The City of Fernie has recently announced a new process and guidelines for applying to legally operate short-term rentals within the city boundaries.  This new process legalizes many short-term rentals that were previously not permitted.

The City of Fernie has released their framework for regulating short term rentals (STR) in Fernie.  This is meant as a high level overview of what is and what isn't allowed.

The proposed framework will actually legalize many STR's that were previously illegal, while ramping up enforcement of those that are not legal.

Short-term rental (STR) refers to the accommodation of guests in a residential home – a room, apartment, secondary suite, or house for less than 30 days for commercial purposes.

The property owners are often not on-site and do not operate as a taxed, licensed, or regulated business.

The City of Fernie is committed to finding a solution that works for Fernie, one that is fair and equitable to all. They hope to engage all stakeholders in transparent and open communication.
